Ummm Hydraulic Valve Tappits???! snds like thttbbtbtbbtb

k so my mechanic said That the noise (only when i push the gas pedal...) in my engine is the Hydraulic Valve Tappits and i have no idea what these are... he said if you replace one you have to replace them all... but how many are there and what do i need to fix em>/???
Even the haynes manual says nothing about em... can somebody help???
